The Hawaiian Islands, particularly Maui, play host to thousands of humpback whales every winter. Their spouts and breaches are spotted (and often heard) from any vantage point on the west side. Some claim it's the shallow depth of the 'Auau Channel that attracts them, but locals will tell you "Maui No Ka Oi" (Maui is the best) is the reason for their yearly visit.
